Biographie
First and only harpist to be distinguished as a Talent Adami Classique, Mélanie Laurent won First Prize at the USA International Harp Competition, one of the most prestigious competitions in the world.
Born into a family of musicians, Mélanie Laurent discovered music at a very early age. She first studied with Dominique Piussan and Ghislaine Petit Volta, before entering the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she was taught by Isabelle Moretti and Geneviève Létang. After receiving First Prize at the Léopold Bellan Competition in 2017, her consecration in Bloomington in 2019 marked the beginning of a flourishing international career.
She has since appeared as a soloist in major cultural capitals such as Milan, Turin, Chicago, Indianapolis, Tel Aviv and Hong Kong. In January 2022, she performed Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, alongside flutist Joséphine Poncelin. In March of the same year, the Mezzo television channel recorded her performance of Debussy’s Danses at the Dubai Opera, together with Ensemble K.
In spring 2024, Mélanie made her debut at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Gabriel Pierné’s Konzertstück, accompanied by the Orchestre Colonne. Two months later, she returned there as a soloist, this time with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris as part of the Palazzetto Bru Zane Festival. In May 2025, she performed at the renowned Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona in Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp, with flutist Elisabet Franch and the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallés.
Widely acclaimed by the press, she has appeared on the cover of the American magazine HarpColumn, which described her as a “source of inspiration”, while ResMusica praised her “flamboyant playing, combining power and precision”. According to cellist Gautier Capuçon, “Mélanie Laurent carries forward, with splendor, the great tradition of the French harp.”
Her first album, Pastel, was released in November 2025. Dedicated to the French twentieth century repertoire, it was met with critical acclaim, earning a five Diapason rating.
Since February 2023, Mélanie Laurent has been principal harp of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg. Alongside her performing career, she teaches at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg and at the Haute école des arts du Rhin.
